The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation oversees all state correctional facilities.
The current population of approximately 168,000 adult inmates and 3,000 youth wards are housed at 41 prisons, 43 camps, five facilities for pregnant and parenting women, four licensed general acute care hospitals, one licensed skilled nursing facility, two hospice programs for the terminally ill, 12 licensed correctional treatment centers, and outpatient housing units.
